It appears New York Yankees left-handed pitcher Carlos Rodon will head to the hill Monday to start the American League Championship Series against the Cleveland Guardians.
The Yankees have named Rodon as their starting pitcher for Game 1, according to The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner and Meredith Marakovits of YES Network.
Rodon had a team-leading 16 wins during the regular season and registered a 3.96 ERA and 195 strikeouts over 32 starts.
The 31-year-old from Miami started Game 2 of the ALDS against the Kansas City Royals last Monday, and took the loss as he allowed four runs on seven hits over 3.2 innings. On the bright side, Rodon didn’t issue any walks and struck out seven.
“Obviously, I want to be better than that — especially how the first three innings went,” Rodon told reporters after the game. “I wouldn’t say I tired out. Just got to be better with those pitches, just more fine with them and get to better spots.”
The 4-2 victory was the Royals’ lone win in the series as the Yankees won in four games.
Cleveland has yet to announce its starting pitcher. The Guardians advanced with a 7-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers during a decisive Game 5 Saturday.
