Report: Blue Jackets’ Zach Werenski a game-time decision vs. Utah

Fans of the Columbus Blue Jackets and the United States team at the 4 Nations Face-Off can seemingly breathe a sigh of relief.

Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports that Zach Werenski will be a game-time decision for Thursday’s game against the Utah Hockey Club.

Werenski told Portzline that a decision on if he can play will be made after his nap this afternoon.

The star defenceman suffered an upper-body injury on Sunday against the Stars and missed Tuesday’s game against the Sabres.

Werenski has vaulted up into Norris Trophy contention this season. He is third among all defencemen with 57 points and second behind only Cale Makar with 17 goals. He is expected to be a key contributor to the United States team at next week’s 4 Nations Face-Off.
