Commanders leading rusher Brian Robinson inactive with hamstring injury

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Washington Commanders leading rusher Brian Robinson was inactive for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

Robinson practiced on a limited basis all week and was listed as questionable on Friday in the Commanders final injury report. Austin Ekeler could get the majority of the carries.

Robinson has rushed for 461 yards and six touchdowns this season. He ran for a career-best 133 yards on 17 carries against New York in September.

The Giants have one big change Sunday. Jude McAtamney, a replacement squad player, will handle the kicking after Greg Joseph was put on injured reserve on Friday with an abdominal issue. Joseph inherited the job after Graham Gano was hurt on the opening kickoff against Washington on Sept. 15.

Bills WR Amari Cooper out vs. Dolphins with wrist injury

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Amari Cooper has been ruled inactive for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins due to a wrist injury, the team announced.

Cooper has been listed as a limited participant at practice all week and was considered questionable going into the AFC East matchup against Miami.

It’s unclear when Cooper suffered the injury, but was held to only one catch for three yards on two targets against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 8.

The Bills traded for the 30-year-old wideout from the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 15, and he has since suited up for two games with the team. He registered four catches for 66 yards and a touchdown in his debut against the Tennessee Titans in Week 7.

The five-time Pro-Bowler has 29 catches this season on 60 targets for 250 yards and three touchdowns.

Buffalo is currently 6-2 and sits atop the AFC East, while Miami is 2-5 and sits third in the division.

Higgins, Brown, Moss out for the Bengals’ matchup vs. Raiders

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Bengals will be without three key players for their game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

Receiver Tee Higgins will miss his second straight game with a quad injury. He previously missed two games earlier this season with a hamstring injury.

Left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. is out with a knee injury. And the Bengals announced before the game that running back Zack Moss is sidelined with a neck injury.

Other Bengals inactives include receiver/kick returner Charlie Jones, receiver Jermaine Burton, tight end Tanner McLaughlan and defensive tackle Jay Tufele.

Inactives for the Raiders include center Andre James, running back Dylan Laube, cornerback Sam Webb, safety Trey Taylor and defensive end Janarius Robinson.

Premier League Roundup: Tottenham surges in second half to thrash Aston Villa

MANCHESTER, England — Dominic Solanke scored twice as Tottenham thrashed Aston Villa 4-1 in the Premier League on Sunday.

The forward struck two goals in the space of four second-half minutes at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Villa had led at the break.

Solanke scored in the 75th and 79th as Spurs produced a stunning second-half performance to follow up its victory against Manchester City in the League Cup on Wednesday.

Morgan Rogers had given Champions League-chasing Villa the lead in the 32nd minute, but Brennan Johnson levelled the game four minutes after the break.

Solanke’s double put Spurs 3-1 ahead and James Maddison curled a free kick into the top corner in the sixth minute of added time. Solanke is now on five goals for the season.

Tottenham is up to seventh in the standings, while fifth-place Villa missed out on the chance to move into the top three.

Grudge match

AFC Wimbledon beat MK Dons 2-0 in the first round of the FA Cup and took bragging rights in one of English soccer’s fiercest grudge matches.

Matty Stevens and Omar Bugiel scored either side of halftime at Stadium MK in a competition that holds deep ties for fans of both clubs.

Wimbledon was a shock winner of the Cup in 1988 when beating the mighty Liverpool 1-0. The team relocated to Milton Keynes in 2002 and was renamed MK Dons, which prompted disgruntled fans to create a phoenix club called AFC Wimbledon.

And it was the travelling AFC Wimbledon fans who were left celebrating Sunday after securing its place in the next round of the Cup.

New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole has opted out of the remaining four years of his contract, ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel reported on Saturday.

Thieves speed off with bronze statue of Formula One racing legend Gilles Villeneuve

A museum dedicated to revered Formula One driver Gilles Villeneuve is racing to find its stolen bronze statue of the Quebec speedster before it gets melted down for cash.

Alain Bellehumeur, general manager of the Gilles Villeneuve Museum, says the five-foot-three inches tall statue was apparently sawed off at the ankles sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday, and he is asking the public for help locating it.

The statue was created in 1984 in tribute of Villeneuve, who participated in 67 Formula One races from 1977 to 1982, winning six before dying in a racing accident while qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix at the age of 32.

In 1994 the statue was placed outside the museum dedicated to him in Berthierville, Que., about 70 kilometres northeast of Montreal, where Bellehumeur says the statue became an important part of the community’s cultural heritage.

He says the statue cost $25,000 to built in 1984 and that he is worried the thieves plan to melt it and sell the bronze.

Jules Lasalle, the man who sculpted the statue, says the theft is a major disappointment and hopes it will soon be returned.
