Red Wings forward Filip Zadina clears waivers

Detroit Red Wings forward Filip Zadina is still with the team for now after clearing waivers on Tuesday.

Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman told reporters on Monday he placed Zadina on waivers hoping to find him another opportunity elsewhere.

“A couple weeks prior to the draft, through his agent, he had asked if he could potentially go somewhere else, looking for more opportunity, a fresh start,” Yzerman said. “I’ve tried to do that. I’ve tried to find a place for him to play. Somebody who’s interested in Filip, maybe give him that opportunity. I haven’t been able to do that.”

Zadina signed a three-year $5.475 million contract prior to last season but was limited to 30 games due to a leg injury and had posted three goals and four assists.

He recorded career highs during the 2021-22 season with 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 points in 74 games.

The 23-year-old from Pardubice, Czechia, was drafted in the first round, sixth overall, by Detroit in 2018.
