Fabrizio Romano reveals what he’s heard about Arsenal and Joao Cancelo after Jurrien Timber injury

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has revealed the information he has regarding Arsenal’s potential move for Joao Cancelo.

It has been reported that Arsenal have gone back into the market after Jurrien Timber suffered a serious injury in their opening Premier League match against Nottingham Forest.

The Dutchman wrote: “Gutted to share my injury is more serious than expected, especially after the warm welcome I’ve received.

“I wanted to repay you on the pitch, which will not be possible for the forthcoming period. I’m blessed with a lot of great people around me, together we will do anything to get back as soon and strong as possible.

“For now I’ll be supporting our team from the stands of course. Thanks for making me feel at home in such a short period of time, see you at The Carpet.”

As a result of Timber’s injury, Arsenal have been linked with a move for Manchester City’s Cancelo, who Gunners boss Mikel Arteta worked with during their time in Manchester.

Speaking about the potential deal, Romano said on Caught Offside: “As previously reported, Arsenal will explore the market for defenders after the serious and lengthy injury to Jurrien Timber. They will decide how to act soon, despite plenty of speculation emerging already about potential targets.

“RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan has always been on Arsenal’s list, he was plan B earlier this summer in case Timber didn’t end up joining. At the moment, however, Arsenal have not reactivated contacts to sign him, let’s see if that happens or not.

“Cancelo has been mentioned again as well, but as stated above, he is in advanced talks over joining Barcelona.”

After their narrow 2-1 victory against Forest at the Emirates Stadium last weekend, the Gunners will be back in Premier League action on Monday as they take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
