Report: Insigne argues with interim coach Dunfield, leaves TFC training

An argument with interim head coach Terry Dunfield led to Lorenzo Insigne leaving a Toronto FC training session, Joshua Kloke and Tom Bogert of The Athletic reported Friday.

Insigne was reportedly unhappy when Dunfield had the Italian forward split reps on a drill with 20-year-old Deandre Kerr. As he departed from the pitch, Insigne reportedly made “derogatory comments” about TFC and how differently he is treated in comparison to other MLS stars.

He also said that he would decide if he would play in TFC’s next game against the Columbus Crew. The Athletic also reported that this is not the first time Insigne has walked out on a practice.

A spokesperson from the team confirmed to The Athletic that Insigne returned to training Friday, is scheduled to travel with the club to Columbus, where he is eligible to play on Saturday.

It has been a disappointing campaign for Toronto, which has failed to pick up a point since firing Bob Bradley as head coach on June 26.

The Athletic had previously reported in May that Insigne was part of a group of players who gathered on a conference call with the intention of having Bradley removed.
