Bedard on Ovechkin beating Gretzky’s goals record: ‘I think he gets it’

Count the latest potential superstar to enter the NHL among the people who think a perceived untouched hockey record will fall.

When asked by reporters on Tuesday if Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin will catch Wayne Gretzky’s seemingly unsurpassable 894 career goals, Connor Bedard said, “I think he gets it.”

Ovechkin, 37, enters the 2023-24 season with 822 career goals, 72 back of the Great One.

Touted as a can’t-miss superstar, Bedard, 18, was chosen first overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in June’s NHL Draft.
