Calgary Flames forward Andrew Mangiapane has been suspended one game for cross-checking the Seattle Kraken’s Jared McCann, the NHL department of player safety announced.
The incident happened midway through the first period, when Seattle Kraken forward Jared McCann blocked a shot from Mangiapane and was still down on the ice when Mangiapane laid a brutal cross-check to the back of his neck. He was assessed a match penalty on the play and was ejected from the game.
McCann did briefly leave the ice, but returned to the bench before the end of the period.
This is the 27-year-old’s first suspension.
