Bills S Micah Hyde doubtful vs. Chargers, DT Jordan Phillips to IR

The Buffalo Bills announced a pair of injury updates to important pieces of their defence as they prepare for a playoff push in the final three weeks of the regular season.

Per head coach Sean McDermott on Thursday, safety Micah Hyde is not expected to play on Saturday night against the Los Angeles Chargers, while defensive tackle Jordan Phillips is headed to the IR, and will miss the remainder of the regular season.

Hyde has played in 12 games for the Bills this season. The two-time All-Pro player has snagged two interceptions for Buffalo, but has been out of action since suffering a neck/stinger injury against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Despite being limited in practice this week, McDermott said that Hyde “doesn’t look like he’ll make it” for Saturday’s game.

Phillips has been a staple of an injury-riddled Bills defence that has seen players moving in and out of the lineup all year long. He has played in 14 games this season, recording 2.5 sacks, including one against the Cowboys before suffering his wrist injury that he underwent surgery on to repair.

The Bills (8-6) are not currently in a playoff spot. However, their recent two-game win streak over the Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys has renewed hope for them to have a chance to only make a late push to the playoffs in a chaotic AFC playoff picture, but for their division title.

Buffalo’s next two games are against a Justin Herbert-less Chargers team, and a 3-11 New England Patriots team that beat them earlier in the season. The Miami Dolphins face the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens in the next two weeks, and with star receiver Tyreek Hill still not practising, their games may be significantly harder.

If the Bills finish with a better record than the Dolphins over the next two weeks, there would be a Week 18 clash between Miami and Buffalo for the AFC East title.
