Winnipeg Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey was in a light-hearted mood on Wednesday despite taking a puck to the face two days earlier in a game against the Montreal Canadiens.
“Christmas card might suffer a little bit this year,” Morrissey said with a laugh. “Got a picture with Santa yesterday and he looked a little scared … I don’t know if I’ll be modelling right now.”
Morrissey took a Nick Suzuki wrist shot straight to the cheek early in the third period of a 3-2 overtime loss for the Jets.
It didn’t seem to bother him much, though, as the defenceman was back on the ice in less than 20 minutes. Morrissey was complimentary of the team’s medical staff or “pit crew,” as he put it, who had him stitched up and in good enough shape to finish the game.
“It looks worse than it is,” said Morrissey when asked how he was feeling. “When I roll over on that side of the pillow, it maybe doesn’t feel the best.”
The Jets host the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT on Sportsnet or Sportsnet+.
