Canadian Jonathan David scores hat trick vs. Martinique in French Cup

Canadian forward Jonathan David had a hat trick for Lille as his team downed a visiting team from Martinique 12-0 in the Coupe de France (French Cup) on Saturday.

Teammate Edon Zhegrova also had a hat trick as the Ligue 1 club dominated the squad from the tiny Caribbean island, which had travelled almost 7,000 km in order to participate in France’s premier knockout cup competition.

Lille fired 36 shots toward the Golden Lion goal, with 22 of them on target. The Martinique side, by comparison, made just one unsuccessful shot attempt.

David, who has represented Canada at the senior level 45 times, has 10 goals for Lille this season in all competitions.
