Pittsburgh Steelers star linebacker T.J. Watt has been ruled out for Sunday’s wild-card game against the Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park, N.Y., coach Mike Tomlin told reporters on Tuesday.
Watt reportedly suffered a Grade 2 MCL (medial collateral ligament) sprain in last Saturday’s win over the Baltimore Ravens.
Watt led the NFL with 19 sacks this season.
There is better news on Minkah Fitzpatrick, with Tomlin saying he is optimistic the star safety will be able to return after missing the past three games with a knee injury.
As expected, Tomlin named Mason Rudolph his starting quarterback for the playoff game. Rudolph, third on the depth chart at the start of the year, has started the past three games for the Steelers, who earned the seventh and final AFC playoff berth on the final day of the regular season.
