Tiger Woods is leaving Nike after working with the athletic company for 27 years, the golfer announced Monday.
“Over 27 years ago, I was fortunate to start a partnership with one of the most iconic brands in the world. The days since have been filled with so many amazing moments and memories, if I started naming them, I could go on forever,” Woods said.
Nike also released a statement on Instagram thanking the 48-year-old golfer.
“Tiger, you challenged your competition, stereotypes, conventions, the old school way of thinking. You challenged the entire institution of golf. You challenged us. And most of all, yourself. And for that challenge we’re grateful,” Nike said.
Woods competed in just four events last year. He made the cut but didn’t finish the third round of the Masters, and then had ankle fusion surgery shortly thereafter.
The 15-time major winner said in November his goal is to play one tournament a month in 2024.
Woods hinted in Monday’s statement he may be in line for a new partnership after the end of his deal with Nike.
“People will ask if there is another chapter. Yes, there will be certainly another chapter.”
Woods ended the message by saying: “See you in L.A.” — a reference to the Genesis Invitational, a PGA Tour event in mid February.
