Washington Capitals forward Nic Dowd is day to day with an upper-body injury, the team told reporters Wednesday.
Coach Spencer Carbery said Dowd will not make the trip to Florida for games against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday and the Florida Panthers on Saturday, per Stephen Whyno of Associated Press. The Capitals recalled forward Pierrick Dubé from AHL Hershey to fill the roster spot.
Dowd, 33, suffered the injury in the first period of a win against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday.
A faceoff specialist and penalty killer with some offensive ability who is signed through next season at the bargain basement salary cap hit of $1.3 million, Dowd is considered one of the most attractive players available ahead of the March 8 NHL trade deadline.
This season, Dowd has 16 points on eight goals and eight assists in 45 games.
