New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes has returned to practice in a non-contact jersey after having been sidelined with an upper-body injury since Jan. 5.
Hughes suffered the injury late in the third period against the Chicago Blackhawks last month, when he took an awkward fall and appeared to be in pain as he skated off the ice. Monday marked his first time returning to on-ice activities, taking rotating rushes with the fourth line.
Hughes was slated to co-captain Team Hughes at the 2024 All-Star Game with Vancouver Canucks defenceman and brother Quinn Hughes, but was replaced by teammate Jesper Bratt when it became clear Hughes would not be able to skate in the event.
He joined Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson (who replaced Hughes as co-captain) in the All-Star Player Draft before returning to New Jersey.
Hughes has been limited by injuries to 32 games this season, though he still ranks second on the team in points with 45.
