Devils’ Siegenthaler to miss ‘extended period of time’ after Rempe elbow

New Jersey Devils coach Travis Green says defenceman Jonas Siegenthaler will be out for an “extended period of time” after he was elbowed by New York Rangers enforcer Matt Rempe on Monday.

Per Devils reporter Amanda Stein, Green added Siegenthaler suffered a concussion after the hit in the final minute of the second period.

As Siegenthaler dumped the puck in from the neutral zone, Rempe came across the ice and hit the Devils defenceman in the head with his elbow as the two collided against the boards. Siegenthaler was slow to get up and did not return to the game.

Rempe was suspended four games by the NHL on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old Rempe has played in only 10 games but has already made a name for himself, racking up 54 penalty minutes and four fights since the Rangers called him up from the minors last month.

Siegenthaler has one goal and eight assists in 49 games this season.
