Idle Canucks can clinch first playoff spot in four years on Saturday

The Vancouver Canucks can clinch a playoff spot on Saturday and earn a post-season return for the first since 2020. And they don’t even have to step on the ice.

According to the NHL, the Canucks can secure their ticket on Saturday if the Wild lose to the Golden Knights in any manner and the Blues fall to the Sharks in regulation. It would mark just their second playoff appearance since 2015.

The Canucks are idle, but the Golden Knights will be in St. Paul to take on the Wild (12:30 p.m. PT / 3:30 p.m. ET on Sportsnet+). If Vegas wins, then the Canucks will have to wait a few hours for the Blues/Sharks game to begin (5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET on Sportsnet+).

Vancouver (45-20-8) is currently in first place in the Pacific Division with 98 points, holding down the second seed in the Western Conference. The Canucks’ next game is Sunday at home against Anaheim.
