It all comes down to one game to determine the Stanley Cup champion between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers.
For the first time since 1945, a team has forced a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Final after falling behind 3-0. It is also just the 10th time in NHL history that a team has pushed a series all the way to Game 7 after losing the first three games.
For the Edmonton Oilers, completing the comeback against the Florida Panthers remains a daunting task. The last team to erase a 3-0 deficit was the Los Angeles Kings, who beat the San Jose Sharks in the first round exactly 10 years ago.
Latest odds for Game 7
Despite their ability to turn things around in the series, the Oilers are not the betting favourite to come out on top in Game 7.
The Panthers sit as -114 favourites on FanDuel Sportsbook, which is only slightly ahead of the Oilers, who are -105 underdogs.
Clearly, it’s tough to find value on the money line with Game 7 almost considered a toss-up because of how close the odds are. However, home teams are 12-5 all-time in Game 7s in the Cup final, but in the last three, the road team has come out on top, which certainly bodes well for Edmonton.
Expect McDavid to come away with hardware, win or lose Game 7
Going into the series, it was not surprising to see Connor McDavid as the odds-on favourite to win the Conn Smythe Trophy.
If you were one of the people to make the obvious play and get McDavid at +200 to be crowned the playoff MVP heading into Game 1, it was a smart bet.
The Oilers captain is now listed at -3500 to win the Conn Smythe Trophy which means win or lose, McDavid likely will hear his name called for a trophy when Game 7 is over.
The only people who got really good value on McDavid were those who took a chance on him to win MVP with the Oilers trailing 3-0.
So who is McDavid’s biggest challenger for the Conn Smythe? Right now, Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov has the next-highest odds at +1200, while goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, who was viewed as the favourite with Florida up 3-0, has seen his value dip significantly to +9000.
Coverage of Game 7 on Monday begins with Hockey Central at 7 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. MT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
