Senators’ Josh Norris trending towards being a full participant in training camp

The Ottawa Senators are encouraged by the progress centre Josh Norris has made this past off-season.

Speaking to reporters Wednesday afternoon, president and general manager Steve Staios said Norris is ahead of where he was at this point last year. Staios also said the team is taking the best approach with his recovery and believes he is trending in the right direction ahead of training camp.

Norris had his season cut short after having surgery on his shoulder back in March. The 24-year-old was hurt on Feb. 27 when he crashed into the net.

It was the third surgery for Norris on his left shoulder as the centre continues to be plagued by injuries. He only appeared in 50 games last season scoring 16 goals and 30 points.

Norris has six more years on a contract with an annual cap hit of $7.95 million.

Acquired as part of the Erik Karlsson deal with the San Jose Sharks in 2018, Norris has 70 goals and 53 assists for 123 points in 183 career games with Ottawa.
