Flyers’ Garnet Hathaway fined for elbowing Wild’s Joel Eriksson Ek

The NHL fined Philadelphia Flyers forward Garnet Hathaway $5,000 on Sunday for elbowing Minnesota Wild forward Joel Eriksson Ek.

The incident occurred early into the second period of Philadelphia’s 7-5 win at home Saturday.

Hathaway, who received a two-minute penalty for roughing, caught Eriksson Ek in the face as he was skating through the Flyers’ zone.

Eriksson Ek, who missed time earlier this month due to a broken nose, picked up a goal and an assist later in the period.

The fine is the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the money going to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
