Nets’ Nic Claxton fined $25,000 for throwing ball into crowd vs. Raptors

It’s a good thing Nic Claxton signed a $100 million extension in the off-season.

The Brooklyn Nets centre was handed a $25,000 fine for throwing the ball into the stands at Scotiabank Arena during the team’s game against the Toronto Raptors on Thursday, the league announced Saturday.

The incident occurred at the 8:46 mark in the second quarter after being fouled by Raptors centre Kelly Olynyk.

After the call, the Georgia product underhand tossed the ball into the Scotiabank Arena crowd and was immediately ejected from the game by referee Ben Taylor.

Thursday’s ejection was Claxton’s third of the season, which leads the NBA. He had seven points and five rebounds in 10 minutes before he was tossed.

Originally selected by the Nets in the second round of the 2019 NBA Draft, Claxton came into Thursday’s contest averaging 9.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in 2024-25.
