The New Orleans Pelicans‘ nightmarish start to the season doesn’t appear to be ending anytime soon.
Already riddled with injuries, the team will now be without starting forward Brandon Ingram for an indefinite period due to a left ankle sprain, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania on Sunday.
Ingram suffered the injury on Saturday when he landed awkwardly on the foot of Thunder forward Lu Dort early in the third quarter of a loss to Oklahoma City. He had to be helped off the floor, and according to Charania, was seen leaving the arena with crutches and in a walking boot.
The one-time All-Star had already missed six games this year due to separate bouts with right-foot tendinitis. Ingram is averaging 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.2 assists through 18 games in 2024-25.
Meanwhile, the Pelicans as a whole have been the most injured squad in the entire NBA. New Orleans players have collectively missed over 100 games through just the first six weeks.
Star forward Zion Williamson remains sidelined with a left hamstring strain, having missed 18 games already. Jose Alvarado (hamstring) and sophomore Jordan Hawkins (back) have been out for 13 games, while Daniel Theis, a rotation piece in the frontcourt, is considered day-to-day with a neck injury.
There has been some good news for the Pelicans on the injury front, as they’ve recently seen the return of Herb Jones (shoulder) and Dejounte Murray (hand) after the pair had missed 18 and 17 games respectively. Veteran CJ McCollum also came back to the lineup following a 13-game absence due to an abductor strain.
New Orleans (5-19) returns to action on Sunday to visit Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.
