Canada’s Rebecca Marino gets spot in Australian Open

Vancouver’s Rebecca Marino received a spot in the Australian Open on Sunday.

Marino will take Karolina Pliskova’s spot after the former No. 1 withdrew from the major tournament in Melbourne.

The 34-year-old Marino is ranked No. 102 in the world.

Marina Stakusic of Mississauga, Ont., looks to join Marino and Leylah Fernadez of Laval, Que., in the main draw. Staukic plays Japan’s Nao Hibino in the first round of women’s qualifying singles action.

The main draw of the Australian Open starts next Sunday.
