Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz confirmed that he was forced to miss most of the second-round series against the Florida Panthers because of a concussion.
Speaking to reporters, Stolarz said that he started to feel bad after the collision with Sam Bennett in Game 1. The 31-year-old left Game 1 shortly after that collision and cameras showed him vomiting on the Maple Leafs’ bench before departing the ice.
Stolarz did dress as Joseph Woll’s backup in Game 7 but did not take the ice again after Game 1. He said that a puck that knocked his mask off his head in the first period of Game 1 was not the cause of his injury.
The New Jersey native had a 4-2 record with a 2.19 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage over seven appearances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He led all goalies with a .926 save percentage this season and made a career-high 33 starts, winning 21 times.
When asked about the hit from Bennett, Stolarz did not believe there was ill intent from his former teammate and that he just got caught in a bad spot.
