Christine Sinclair to become first player inducted into Thorns’ Hall of Fame

Christine Sinclair is set to live on in Portland Thorns lore.

The Canadian soccer legend will become the first player inducted into the NWSL club’s Hall of Fame in a ceremony on Oct. 4, the team announced on Wednesday.

Sinclair ended her pro soccer career in November after 12 seasons with the Thorns, including three titles.

She retired from the Canadian national team a year earlier as international soccer’s all-time leading scorer among both men and women with 190 goals.

Sinclair, 42, played for Portland since the NWSL’s launch in 2013 and helped the Thorns win NWSL championships in 2013, 2017 and 2022. She scored a club-record 79 regular-season in all competitions, ranking second in NWSL history.

The Burnaby, B.C., native also holds Portland records for matches played (237), games started (215), minutes (18,579) and penalty goals (10).

Internationally, Sinclair helped Canada win gold at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo amid a run of four consecutive appearances at the Games.

Her induction ceremony will take place ahead of a home match against Bay FC.
