Another season, another setback for Ja Morant.
The Memphis Grizzlies all-star guard is out week-to-week after spraining his left ankle in practice, a team spokesperson said, per DaMichael Cole of Memphis News.
Morant, 26, played just 50 games last season and nine in 2023-24 as he battled hip and shoulder injuries while serving multiple suspensions.
When healthy and available, Morant is among the most electric players in the league.
The high-flying two-time all-star and 2020 rookie of the year averaged 23.2 points and 7.3 assists per game last season while seeing a slight uptick in three-point percentage at 30.9.
Morant represents the latest injury blow to Memphis, which will also start the season without Canadians Zach Edey (ankle) and Brandon Clarke (knee). Forward Jaren Jackson was ruled out for 12 weeks in early July after undergoing a procedure for turf toe.
The Grizzlies, who traded fellow all-star Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic in the off-season, open their pre-season schedule Monday. The regular-season opener is slated for Oct. 22 against the New Orleans Pelicans.
