Lightning place forward Josh Archibald on unconditional waivers

The Tampa Bay Lightning have placed forward Josh Archibald on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract, the team announced Saturday.

Archibald signed a two-year, $1.6 million contract with the Lightning on July 1.

“Yesterday, I was informed by Josh’s agent, and by Josh himself in a subsequent conversation, that he was not planning on playing hockey for the time being and that he would not be reporting to training camp,” Lightning vice president and general manager Julien BriseBois said in a statement. “Consequently, Josh was placed on unconditional waivers earlier today for the purpose of terminating his contract.

“We wish Josh, his wife Bailey, and their entire family the very best in their future endeavors.”

The 30-year-old Archibald had six goals and 12 points in 62 games in his second stint with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season.

Archibald was drafted in the sixth round, 174th overall, by Pittsburgh in 2011. He has 45 goals and 83 points in 305 games over eight seasons with the Penguins, Arizona Coyotes and Edmonton Oilers.

The Lightning also announced they have signed forward Tyler Motte to a one-year, $800,000 contract.
