Report: Ailing Wild star Kirill Kaprizov could undergo surgery

An MVP candidate could be headed for a significant absence.

Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov missed practice and may undergo surgery for a lower-body injury that has plagued him throughout the year, The Athletic’s Michael Russo and Joe Smith reported on Tuesday.

Kaprizov, 27, has played in each of the Wild’s past three games after missing a month with an ailment that lingered longer than the team anticipated.

He has been in discussion with team management the past few days over rehab options, but surgery appears to be the likeliest outcome, The Athletic reported.

Karizov recorded two assists in during his three-game return while playing more than 21 minutes in each of the past two contests.

For the season, Kaprizov leads Minnesota with 52 points (23 goals, 29 assists) despite appearing in just 37 games.

The Wild hit the road to face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday.
