Brandon Carlo, Scott Laughton expected to make Maple Leafs debuts on Saturday

The Toronto Maple Leafs could look very different when they hit the ice this weekend.

Trade additions Brandon Carlo and Scott Laughton are expected to make their Maple Leafs debuts on Saturday against the Colorado Avalanche, general manager Brad Treliving said on Friday.

Carlo, the tall right-handed defenceman, could slot into Toronto’s top four, potentially alongside offensive-minded lefty Morgan Rielly.

The 28-year-old has been staple on the Bruins’ back end — and a thorn in the Maple Leafs’ side — for nearly a decade, due to his size and physicality as a six-foot-five, 220-pound shutdown specialist.

Laughton, meanwhile, provides depth down the middle — potentially as the team’s third-line centre.

The Oakville, Ont., product spent all 12 years of his big-league career to this point in Flyers colours, after being drafted 20th overall by the organization in 2012.

Laughton, 30, had 11 goals and 16 assists in 60 games with Flyers.
