The Florida Panthers‘ injury report is starting to fill up in a hurry.
Defenceman Dmitry Kulikov, who was placed on the injured reserve on Friday with an upper-body ailment, may have to undergo surgery, head coach Paul Maurice told reporters Saturday.
Kulikov suffered the injury in Thursday’s 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. He exited the game midway through the second period and did not return after going for a check on Flyers forward Bobby Brink.
He grabbed at his right wrist as he returned to the locker room after the play. He had logged 7:47 of ice time with one hit up to that point in the game.
The 34-year-old has been a solid bottom-pairing defenceman for the Panthers since joining them ahead of the 2023-24 season. In 70 games last year, he had four goals and nine assists.
Originally drafted 14th overall by the Panthers in 2009, Kulikov has 50 goals and 197 assists in 1,020 games, split between the Panthers, Winnipeg Jets, Minnesota Wild, Anaheim Ducks, Buffalo Sabres, New Jersey Devils, Edmonton Oilers and Pittsburgh Penguins.
He joins a growing list of injured Panthers, with the team also having started the year without forwards Aleksander Barkov (ACL/MCL), Matthew Tkachuk (adductor) and Tomas Nosek (knee).
