The Buffalo Sabres are battling adversity early.
Centre Josh Norris is set to miss a “significant amount of time” with an upper-body injury, head coach Lindy Ruff told reporters on Wednesday.
Norris, 26, was injured on Thursday night against the New York Rangers.
He was slow to get up after falling to the ice on the neutral zone face-off, eventually made his way to the bench and did not take another shift.
Norris has a history of injuries, including after he was acquired by the Sabres from the Ottawa Senators last year in a deal that sent Dylan Cozens the other way.
Ruff previously said the injury is a new one, but similar to a torn oblique that led to Norris missing the final month of last season.
It’s the latest setback for Norris, who had three operations to correct a shoulder issue dating to his college career at Michigan.
The six-year NHL veteran has only appeared in more than 56 games in a season once in his career. Last year, in 56 games, he had 21 goals and 35 points, but injuries limited him to only three games with the Sabres after the trade deadline.
Buffalo returns to the ice Saturday when it visits the Boston Bruins.
