Blue Jays’ Nick Sandlin clears waivers, elects free agency

Nick Sandlin is set to explore the open market.

The Toronto Blue Jays announced on Monday that the right-handed pitcher had cleared waivers and is electing free agency.

Sandlin, 28, made 19 appearances for the Blue Jays in 2025, posting a 2.20 ERA through 16.1 innings of relief. It was an injury-plagued campaign for the righty, missing time due to inflammation in his throwing arm.

He allowed seven runs (four earned) in that span, with 16 strikeouts and a 1.163 WHIP, and finished with a 0-2 record and one save.

He did not make an appearance during Toronto’s post-season run to the World Series.

Sandlin was drafted by the Guardians in 2018, taken in the second round, and was acquired alongside infielder Andres Gimenez from Cleveland this past off-season in a three-team trade that also involved the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Through 211.2 innings over 228 appearances in the majors, Sandlin holds a 3.19 ERA and a 19-10 record.

The change makes room on the roster for incoming free agents as well as Rule 5-eligible players who need to be protected by Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET., in order to be safe from selection by other clubs during the draft on Dec. 10.

Toronto’s eligible players include top prospects Ricky Tiedemann, Yohendrick Pinango, Victor Arias, Josh Kasevich and Edward Duran.

Sandlin was projected by MLB Trade Rumors to earn $2 million in salary during the upcoming arbitration process. Other arbitration-eligible players on the Blue Jays major-league roster include Daulton Varsho, Ernie Clement, Eric Lauer and Tyler Heineman.
