The Ottawa Senators‘ quarter-century team was unveiled by the NHL on Saturday, featuring the historic franchise’s best players from 2000 to the present day.
To no surprise, the famous “Pizza Line” highlights the first team as Daniel Alfredsson, Dany Heatley and Jason Spezza join defencemen Erik Karlsson, and Wade Redden along with goaltender Craig Anderson.
The second team features prominent forwards Marian Hossa, Mark Stone, Brady Tkachuk defencemen Zdeno Chara, Chris Phillips and goaltender Patrick Lalime.
Media members, retired NHLers, and club executives weighed in on the selection, with each team comprising three forwards, two defencemen, and one goaltender, for a total of 12 players.
Alfredsson has been Ottawa’s top producer in the past quarter century, registering 882 points in 890 games, and became the first Senators’ player in the modern area to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Heatley registered back-to-back 50-goal seasons for the Senators and holds the team’s single-season franchise record for goals (50), and points (105). Spezza sits second among Senators players in goals (251) assists (436) and points (687) since 2000.
During his time with the Senators, Karlsson captured the Norris Trophy twice and is third on the Senators with 518 points in 627 games in the past quarter century. Redden is second among Senators defencemen in points with 311 in that period.
During his decade-long run with the Senators, Anderson leads the team in games played (435) and wins with 202. He also helped the Senators reach the Eastern Conference Final in 2017.
Tkachuk is the only current member of the Senators team to be named to one of the quarter-century teams. The 10th captain in team history has three consecutive 30-goal seasons and is third among forwards in the quarter-century with 384 points in 476 games.
