The Toronto Maple Leafs‘ centre depth will continue to be tested.
Head coach Craig Berube announced that Nicolas Roy will miss at least a couple of games with an upper-body injury.
The 28-year-old appeared to suffer the injury during Saturday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks. In 19 games this season, Roy has a goal and four points after being acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights.
With Auston Matthews and Scott Laughton also sidelined, the Leafs recalled Jacob Quillan from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies and will have him skate on the third line with Matias Maccelli and Bobby McMann.
Quillan, 23, made his NHL debut with the Maple Leafs last season, participating in one game.
He’s off to a hot start with the Marlies this season with 14 points (two goals, 12 assists) in 14 games.
The Maple Leafs return to action Tuesday at home against the similarly struggling St. Louis Blues.
